This DONA Approved Birth Doula Workshop is one step in the process of becoming a certified Birth Doula with DONA International; however, at the completion of the workshop participants will have the education, tools and confidence to begin supporting families right away.
A Birth Doula:
Recognizes birth as a key life experience, understands the physiology of birth and the emotional needs of a labouring person;
Assists an expectant family in preparing for and carrying out their plans for the birth;
Offers continuous support throughout the birth;
Provides emotional support, practical comfort measures, an objective viewpoint and information to aid decision making;
Is there to add to the labouring person’s current support team, not replace them.
This workshop will be of interest to:
Anyone who has an interest in pregnancy and birth and who wish to become a trained doula;
Health care professionals who wish to expand their knowledge of labour support.
Participants are asked to read “The Birth Partner; A Complete Guide to Childbirth for Dads, Doulas, and other labour companions” by Penny Simkin You are not required to bring the book to the workshop, but you will very likely want to own your own copy!
Cost: $429 if paid and registered by Feb 2nd; $499 thereafter
