Arm Balancing and Inverting: Slide and Roll Your Way into the Upside Down
October 9, 2:00pm-3:30pm

Wear your favorite socks! We will slide and roll from unstable surfaces towards stability—even when things are upside down.

Socks, foam rollers, and pilates balls will help us surf gravity.

—Strengthen and mobilize the areas that you need to safely plank, side plank, and walk up a wall. Find your foundation for balancing on your hands and forearms by strategically, slowly sliding and rolling your way toward those postures.

—Develop the confidence to kick and jump your way up. (Play time and drills you can work into your weekly practice!)

—Learn how to develop your kicking and jumping into floating. (Hint: your deep core will be involved in slowing down for some hang time in the air!)

—Experiment with creative variations!

You can choose to keep one foot on the ground at all times—beginner options will be provided—or lift off. Discover your individual path! Perfect for all curious students and teachers.

Smart Shoulders: Therapeutics for the Upper Back, Neck, Arms, and Wrists to Feel Amazing in Your Vinyasa, Gentle, or Barre Practice
October 10, 8:30am-10:00am

Open up new options for moving and release chronic tension, first with active movements and then in supported positions. We’ll use PNF and eccentric techniques from physical therapy, plus isometrics and isolations from dance traditions, plus pre-hab moves from Pilates that facilitate mobility and strength. We will move on to gentler, supported postures and breathing practices that allow the body to open and gradually relax. Perfect for students and teachers of all levels.

Deep Core and Hips: Therapeutics for the Pelvis, Abdomen, Lower Back, and Hips to Feel Great in Your Vinyasa, Gentle, or Barre Practice
October 10, 2:00pm-3:30pm

Become aware of your deep postural muscles and learn to access that strength every time you practice—without overdoing it or straining. Essential movements that explore the deep core, including:

—what the pelvic floor is, how to engage it, how to relax it, why it's important

—the four layers of abdominals

—the iliopsoas group and sacroiliac joint

—the key back muscles, including the multifidi and quadratus lumborum

—the respiratory diaphragm and its role in core and hip health

We practice and break down the most crucial exercises and postures for a healthy back and hips. These movements and discussions allow you to really notice which areas are your workhorses and which are asleep—and then apply this awareness in your regular practice and your everyday functional movements. Students and teachers of all levels welcome.
