Pelvic Floor Weakness and Tightness, Diastasis Rectus and Lumbar Strain: Pre-Hab and Prevention for Yogis, Dancers, Athletes, Parents, and Pilates People
Saturday, 10am-1pm
Open to all students
Physical therapy is necessary for many pelvic and core dysfunctions. But how do we work within our sport or yoga or pilates practice preventatively?
Learn to maintain the health of these deep core areas as we stretch deeply, lift heavy, and push our endurance.
Delivering a baby is only one of many ways these areas get stressed. Weight training, running, cycling, long hours at desks or in cars, and genetic conditions can all do a number on these important areas!
If you’ve benefited from PT and want to find ways to bridge the gap into your everyday activities, or if you want to prevent injury, or simply avoid the experiences your parents had (SI strain, breathing difficulties, low back pain, lack of balance and coordination, difficulty getting up and down)—this session is for you!
Tuition: $45 (10am-1pm Saturday morning)
Deep Core Magic: Free the Hips, Low Back, and Breath
Saturday, 2pm-5pm
Weave core awareness and stability into your teaching, no matter which movement traditions you call home. Yoga and pilates teachers, personal trainers, S&C coaches, dance teachers are all welcome.
This session builds upon the morning session (which focuses on YOU) by developing your ability to teach other people how to start where they are and progress.
You’ll learn to create and adjust sequences based on what your students need most right now.
This is not about crunches or sit ups. It’s about balancing stability and mobility in the abs, pelvic floor, low back, and the breathing and hip muscles (including the rotators). Seeing what a student needs and responding in real time so that each system—muscular, connective (tendon and ligament and fascia), nervous, respiratory—is stressed just enough—not too much, not too little—and has time to recover and grow.
Open up a new way of seeing and responding to your students. Process, not goal. Growth, not status.
Please Your Knees and Feet
Sunday, 10am-1pm
After we stabilize the deep core and free up hips, we travel down to the lower leg and foot to integrate therapeutic and long-term strategies.
Smart Shoulders: Your Upper Back, Neck, Arms, and Wrists Can Feel Amazing
Sunday, 2pm-5pm
Release chronic tension and stabilize your upper body joints for decades of pain-free movement.
In each of these Sunday sessions, we will learn how (and when and why) to use:
PNF and eccentric techniques from physical therapy and strength training
isometrics and isolations from dance and yoga traditions
pre-hab moves from Pilates and Yoga Therapy that facilitate mobility and strength
gentle, supported postures and breathing practices that allow the body to gradually relax, release, and rest
Join me in the adventure of teaching people (including ourselves!) to:
notice how much they can already do,
explore what they want to be able to do,
strategize steps that guide them along that path,
support them in these steps (the easy ones and the hard ones) and adjust the strategies week to week as conditions and abilities change.
This sounds linear but it is not.
In these workshops, you’ll learn to work with students:
assessing their current capacities (not just for range of motion, but also awareness, stability, strength, balance, coordination, nervous system recovery) in an ongoing, systematic way
supporting them in moving and breathing a little further than they would by themselves (for reasons related to their intentions and goals and values)
pulling back in effort or range (for various reasons, including effective recovery, learning, or habit-breaking)
guiding them (through injury, illness, burnout, fatigue, and life changes) to a practice that is nourishing
These last three sessions are designed for teachers and trainees of all levels and movement traditions.
Tuition: $130 for one day. $250 for entire weekend.
12 Yoga Alliance CEUs available.
