Chris Roark Sutherland

Chris lives in a Dayton neighborhood with the love of her life, Keith. Together their blended family has three teenagers; Katie, Willow, and Rhowan.

Chris has been practicing yoga off and on since 2000, ever more steadily since 2005. She is a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) with Yoga Alliance at the 200hr level and completed her Yoga Teacher Training at Day Yoga Studio in Dayton, Ohio in November of 2015.  Her style has a strong emphasis on yoga for stress management, inner-awakening, mental/physical strength and resilience, mindfulness, healing past traumas, and other aspects of flowing from a state of chronic imbalance into a state of well-being. She incorporates the use of pranayama, meditation, music, chants, mantras, and chakra energy work to help others open and connect to their inner peace, intuition, and authentic self. She believes that each and every one of us is a unique expression of the Divine.

Chris is a student called to serve the Bhakti Yoga tradition and the Yoga of Sound, a path of love, devotion, and musical energy work that truly transformed her life. The spark of Yogic Sound was passed to her by the lovely Kristin Luna Ray. Chris remains heavily influenced by Luna’s inspirational works, teachings, and wisdom. Chris began writing her own song chants under the name, Deep Blue Ocean of Love, in August of 2015. She believes that the ancient practice of chanting mantra offers us access to limitless, unconditional Love from the Source of All. These timeless prayers and mantra song vibrations are a powerful tool that shine the Light- revealing our innermost self and truth, opening our heart, and wrapping us in the loving embrace of universal, Sacred connection. This Love and Truth can change your life. This Love and Truth can change the world.

Chris holds a self-designed, interdisciplinary Bachelor’s degree in Human Biology, Health, and Social Science from Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio. Her ongoing quest is to explore the broad dynamics behind mental and physical health, healing, and illness through biological, socio-cultural, psychological, and spiritual perspectives. Chris joins her educational pursuits with wisdom from her personal journey through autoimmune disease, a dysfunctional/abusive relationship, and severe chronic health issues to help others regain and/or maintain mental, physical, and spiritual wellness in their own lives.

A truly holistic health and yoga teacher, she approaches health, healing, and wellness from a strong foundation in science and a firm belief in the mind-body-spirit connection. She believes that yoga is indeed the art and science of life, offering us a path to a balanced, happy, and fulfilling life. She remains a student of life and is grateful for the teachers and students that enlighten and share the path with her.
