Aerial yoga is a unique yoga practice that incorporates traditional yoga postures with the use of a silk hammock or yoga swing (or trapeze) suspended from the ceiling to aid in the poses. It combines the strength, stability, and flexibility of yoga with the exhilarating grace of moving in the air. Aerial yoga allows movement in multiple planes, encouraging students to explore their own natural movement patterns in new ways. Come learn how to lead students safely through fun and sometimes challenging Aerial poses and flows. You will also learn how to teach more calming, restorative classes to produce different energetic effects. We will go over basic aerial yoga postures both on the ground and in the air.
Week 1: basic Aerial postures starting from the ground up to flying in the hammock. We will start to build on poses to create a cohesive and enjoyable flow.
Week 2: Recap week one and go over more specific subtypes of Aerial yoga including Low Fly, Restorative, and Barre. You will learn how to teach an Aerial class that progresses naturally. We will review the importance of class flow and sequencing. Participants will plan and practice teach a short flow.
Aerial safety, contraindications and modifications will also be taught, ensuring that you can confidently meet all of your students’ varying needs.
