How did yoga become a part of your life? What led you to a devoted yoga practice?
I first took a yoga class at the YMCA back in 2003 and I honestly did not love it. I enjoyed the teachers and the practice seemed interesting, but I just did not "get it." I continued over the years to practice different yoga styles as a supplement to other exercise programs and began to see some benefit. In 2015 I had an opportunity to work for five weeks in Austin, TX which would allow me to have some free time away from my home responsibilities. I thought it would be the perfect time to really dive into some yoga and see what it is really all about. I finally started to "get it" and fell in love. This is when I decided to take yoga teacher training and dive in more fully. So I started training at Day Yoga in the fall of 2016.
What do you think is the biggest misconception people have about yoga?
I think the biggest misconception people have about yoga is that they have to be flexible to do yoga or to have a certain body type. Yoga is absolutely for EVERY body.
Name 3 non-negotiables in your life:
Speaking my truth. Always striving to learn as much as I can. Having a solid work ethic.
These are a daily practice in life.
What is the pose that challenges you the most and why?
Savasana is probably most challenging to me. It takes a lot for me to quiet my mind and allow full relaxation.
One mantra to share with students
May you be happy, may you be healthy, may you have peace.
Namaste.
